UNESCO is launching “From Insult to Inclusion in Asia-Pacific” – a new report on school bullying, violence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. They are holding a public event this Thursday in Bangkok.

UNESCO, along with UNDP & Being LGBT in Asia are already highly involved in addressing LGBT awareness in schools in Asia by using the social media campaign #purplemyschool – we talked about it here.

LGBT discrimination inside schools is a big issue as UNESCO reports, “the majority of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) youth in Asia-Pacific say they have been subjected to some form of violence or bullying in school. In some countries, as many as four out of five LGBTI learners are affected.”

This event will launch this report, the first of its kind, to comprehensively examine these LGBTI challenges in Asia-Pacific schools.

Food and refreshments will be provided.
