What would be better than meeting up on the International Women’s Day, watch some badass feminist movies of female directors and support your local queer women’s gang?

To welcome the month which we globally celebrate the power of women’s empowerment, we proudly present the first of our screening series, with the theme, She Needed (to be) a Hero, So That’s What She Became.

We are not writing why Women’s day is important for you, as Bangkok Rising already explained here widely, so we can jump directly why you should watch these movies and why you should come even if you already watched them:

Itty Bitty Titty Committee

by Jamie Babbit (2007)
“A high School grad and all American gal, Anna finds her purpose and herself after she hooks up with the radical feminists.” – IMDB

It’s a badass movie, wrapped around a cute queer women romantic plot, about their feminist collective called c(l)it and the riot grrrl music scene in US. Food for thought people!

Vessel

by Diana Whitten (2014)
“A fearless sea captain sails a ship through loopholes in international law, providing abortions on the high seas, and leaving in her wake a network of emboldened activists who trust women to handle abortion on their own terms.” -IMDB

Vessel is the documentary about the extraordinary story of Women on Waves movement and its founder, Dr. Rebecca Gomperts and her female collective, sailing a ship around the world and provides safe abortions at sea for women who have no safe alternative where abortion is legally restricted.

You should come and watch or re-watch it because not only they are great movies, but also because the money we will raise during this event will be found our next event during IDAHOT Thailand, plus you will have the chance to win a special prize.
