Paris Is Burning (Jennie Livingston, 1991) is one of those movies about queer and gay culture that you cannot miss to watch at least once in your life. Have you ever heard about Voguing? Yeah right, Madonna didn’t invent anything, and by watching this you will understand why.

This documentary is an unique piece of history about the New York “Golden Age” of balls and drag scene, where a colorful mix of African-American, Latino, gay, and transgender communities got together to express themselves in a thoughtful exploration of race, class, gender, and sexuality. If it’s not on your queer movies list, it should be now – and Jam screening night is a great opportunity to highly recommended!
